Abstract:
Implementations of the present disclosure describe a pacifier device having a base portion, a nipple portion, and an attachment portion. The nipple portion is coupled to and protruding from the base portion in a first direction. The attachment portion is coupled to and protruding from the base portion in a second direction that is generally opposite to the first direction. The attachment portion is configured to rotate with the pacifier device to aid in connecting the pacifier device to a hub. The attachment portion may be inserted into a slot on an outer surface of a body to form a pacifier system.

Claims:
CLAIMS

1. A pacifier device comprising: a body; a first arm extending from the body; a first sucker coupled to a distal end portion of the first arm; a second arm extending from the body; and a second sucker coupled to a distal end portion of the second arm.

2. The pacifier device of claim 1, further comprising: a third arm extending from the body; and a third sucker coupled to a distal end portion of the third arm.

3. The pacifier device of claim 2, wherein the first, second, and third arms extend from the body such that the first, second, and third, arms are generally about 120 degrees apart.

4. The pacifier device of claim 2, wherein each of the first, second, and third arms is between about 1.5 inches and about 6 inches in length.

5. The pacifier device of claim 2, further comprising: a fourth arm extending from the body; and a fourth sucker coupled to a distal end portion of the fourth arm.

6. The pacifier device of claim 5, wherein the first, second, third, and fourth arms extend from the body such that the first, second, third, and fourth arms are generally about 90 degrees apart.

The pacifier device of claim 2, wherein the first sucker is fixed to the distal end portion of the first arm using one or more stitches, the second sucker is fixed to the distal end portion of the second arm using one or more stitches, and the third sucker is fixed to the distal end portion of the third arm using one or more stitches.

The pacifier device of claim 2, wherein the first sucker is removably coupled to the distal end portion of the first arm via a first fastener, the second sucker is removably coupled to the distal end portion of the second arm via a second fastener, and the third sucker is removably coupled to the distal end portion of the third arm via a third fastener.

9. The pacifier device of claim 8, wherein the first fastener, the second fastener, and the third fastener include hook and loop fasteners, snaps, clips, toggles, zipper or any combination thereof.

10. The pacifier device of claim 1, further comprising a first hinge portion formed in the first arm adjacent to the first sucker to aid the first sucker in moving relative to the body and a second hinge portion formed in the second arm adjacent to the second sucker to aid the second sucker in moving relative to the body.

11. The pacifier device of claim 10, wherein the first hinge portion includes a first stitched line formed across a width of the first arm and the second hinge portion includes a second stitched line formed across a width of the second arm.

12. The pacifier device of claim 2, wherein the body, the first arm, the second arm, and the third arm are formed by one or more sheets of material sewn together and stuffed with a plush material.

13. The pacifier device of claim 12, further comprising one or more weights positioned within the body, the first arm, the second arm, the third arm, or any combination thereof, the one or more weights aiding in maintaining a position of the pacifier device when in use on a chest of a baby.

14. The pacifier device of claim 13, wherein the one or more weights are only positioned within the body and not in the first arm, the second arm, or the third arm.

15. The pacifier device of claim 13, wherein the one or more weights include beads or beans made of plastic, rubber, metal, silicone, relatively dense plush material, or any combination thereof.

16. The pacifier device of claim 12, further comprising a wire frame positioned at least partially within the body, the first arm, the second arm, and the third arm, to aid in adjusting relative positions of the first arm, the second arm, and the third arm.

17. The pacifier device of claim 16, wherein the wire frame includes a metal wire coated with a second material, the second material including plastic, silicone, fabric, or any combination thereof.

18. The pacifier device of claim 1, wherein the first sucker includes a nipple portion, a base portion, and an attachment portion, the nipple portion being coupled to the base portion and extending in a first direction therefrom, the attachment portion being coupled to the base portion and extending in a second opposing direction therefrom.

19. The pacifier device of claim 18, wherein the attachment portion is coupled along a mirror plane of the sucker to the base portion.

20. The pacifier device of claim 19, wherein the first sucker includes a first half on a first side of the mirror plane and a second half on a second side of the mirror plane.

21. The pacifier device of claim 20, wherein the base portion has an outer perimeter, and inner perimeter, and the base portion defines a first pair of breathing apertures therein and a second pair of breathing apertures therein, the first pair of breathing apertures being located in the first half of the sucker between the outer perimeter and inner perimeter and the second pair of breathing apertures being located in the second half of the sucker between the outer perimeter (408) and inner perimeter.

22. The pacifier device of claim 21, wherein the outer perimeter and inner perimeter are generally circular.

The pacifier device of claim 21, wherein the attachment portion includes a first tab and a second tab, the first tab of the attachment portion being located adjacent to a first side portion of the base portion that is between the inner and outer perimeters and the second tab of the attachment portion being located adjacent to an opposing second side portion of the base portion that is between inner and outer perimeters.

The pacifier device of claim 23, wherein the nipple portion and the base portion of the first sucker define a finger cavity configured to receive at least a portion of a finger therein, access to the finger cavity being generally defined as being between the first and second tabs of the attachment portion and between the first and second pairs of breathing apertures.

25. The pacifier device of claim 24, wherein the distal end portion of the first arm includes a notch therein to aid in providing access to the finger cavity.

26. The pacifier of claim 1, wherein at least the first arm includes a first branch and a second branch.

27. A pacifier system comprising: a body having an outer surface with a slot therein that extends into the body; and a pacifier device including a nipple portion and an attachment portion, the nipple portion extending in a first direction and the attachment portion extending in a second direction, the attachment portion being configured to be inserted into the slot of the body to aid in connecting the pacifier device with the body.

28. The pacifier system of claim 27, wherein the body is generally cylindrical in shape.

29. The pacifier system of claim 28, wherein the body further comprises: a first portion and a second portion opposing the first portion, wherein the slot is disposed between the first portion and the second portion.

30. The pacifier system of claim 27, wherein the attachment portion is configured to be inserted into the slot when in a first orientation but not when in a second orientation.

31. The pacifier system of claim 27, wherein the attachment portion is coupled to a rear surface of the pacifier device.

32. The pacifier system of claim 27, wherein the attachment portion extends in the second direction that is generally opposite to the first direction.

33. The pacifier system of claim 27, wherein: the body further includes a plurality of slots along the outer surface; and a plurality of pacifier devices, each pacifier device including a nipple portion and an attachment portion, the nipple portion extending in a first direction and the attachment portion extending in a second direction, the attachment portion being configured to be inserted into the each of the plurality of slots to aid in connecting the plurality of pacifier devices with the body

34. The pacifier system of claim 27, wherein the attachment portion generally has (i) a T- shape, (ii) a C-shape, (iii) a Z-shape, (iv) L-shape, (v) S-shape, (vi) X-shape, (vii) V-shape, or (viii) Y-shape.

35. The pacifier system of claim 27, wherein the pacifier device includes a coupling mechanism on or adjacent to a rear surface of the pacifier device.

36. The pacifier system of claim 35, wherein the coupling mechanism includes one or more strips of hook-and-loop fasteners disposed on the rear surface of the pacifier device.

37. The pacifier system of claim 36, wherein at least a portion of the outer surface of the body is covered with hook-and-loop fasteners configured to attach with the one or more strips of hook-and-loop fasteners disposed on the rear surface of the pacifier device.

38. The pacifier system of claim 35, wherein the coupling mechanism includes one or more magnetic pieces disposed adjacent to the rear surface of the pacifier device.

39. The pacific system of claim 38, wherein the outer surface of the body is configured to magnetically attract the one or more magnetic pieces of the coupling mechanism.

40. The pacifier system of claim 27, wherein the nipple portion and the attachment portion are fully integrated with the pacifier device.

41. The pacifier system of claim 27, wherein a rear surface of the pacifier device includes a curved portion configured to abut a correspondingly-curved portion of the outer surface of the body.

42. The pacifier system of claim 27, wherein the slot opens into a first chamber configured to receive the attachment portion and a second chamber interior of the first chamber, the second chamber configured to lock the attachment portion to the body.

43. The pacifier system of claim 27, wherein the body includes a central cavity configured to sealably store a bag coupled therein.

44. The pacifier system of claim 43, wherein the bag, when decompressed, is configured to envelope the body and the pacifier device.

45. The pacifier system of claim 44, wherein the bag is coupled to a drawstring configured to tighten the envelope around the body and the pacifier device.

46. The pacifier system of claim 27, wherein the pacifier device comprises: a sucker having a base portion and a nipple portion protruding therefrom; and an adapter including an attachment portion and a compartment portion coupled thereto, the attachment portion being configured aid in connecting the pacifier device with a hub, the compartment portion being configured to accommodate at least a portion of the sucker therein.

47. The pacifier system of claim 46, wherein the compartment is generally cylindrical in shape.

48. The pacifier system of claim 46, wherein the compartment includes one or more vents to align with one or more breathing apertures of the sucker accommodated in the compartment.

49. The pacifier system of claim 46, wherein the compartment further includes a lid having a central opening for accommodating the nipple portion of the sucker.

50. The pacifier system of claim 49, wherein the lid further includes one or more vents to align with one or more breathing apertures of the sucker.

51. The pacifier system of claim 49, wherein the compartment is coupled to the lid using (i) a connection between a clip on the lid and a notch on a rim of the compartment, (ii) a hinge between the lid and the rim, (iii) an interference fit between the lid and the rim, (iv) a magnetic fit between the lid and the rim, (v) fasteners between the lid and the rim, or (vi) any combination thereof.

52. The pacifier system of claim 46, wherein the attachment portion is detachable from the compartment.

53. The pacifier system of claim 46, wherein the attachment portion is coupled to a rear surface of the compartment in a direction generally opposite to the direction in which the nipple portion protrudes.

54. The pacifier system of claim 46, wherein the compartment is further configured to accommodate the sucker in a storing configuration.

55. The pacifier system of claim 54, wherein the compartment has a generally conical shape or pyramidal shape with a base wall configured to accommodate the base portion of the sucker.

56. The pacifier system of claim 54, wherein the compartment has a generally conical shape or pyramidal shape with a vertex against which the nipple portion of the sucker is disposed.

57. A pacifier device comprising: a sucker having a base portion and a nipple portion protruding therefrom; and an adapter including an attachment portion and a compartment portion coupled thereto, the attachment portion being configured to aid in connecting the pacifier device with a hub, the compartment portion being configured to accommodate at least a portion of the sucker therein.

58. The pacifier device of claim 57, wherein the compartment is generally cylindrical in shape.

59. The pacifier device of claim 57, wherein the compartment includes one or more vents to align with one or more breathing apertures of the sucker accommodated in the compartment.

60. The pacifier device of claim 57, wherein the compartment further includes a lid having a central opening for accommodating the nipple portion of the sucker.

61. The pacifier device of claim 60, wherein the lid further includes one or more vents to align with one or more breathing apertures of the sucker.

62. The pacifier device of claim 60, wherein the compartment is coupled to the lid using (i) a connection between a clip on the lid and a notch on a rim of the compartment, (ii) a hinge between the lid and the rim, (iii) an interference fit between the lid and the rim, (iv) a magnetic fit between the lid and the rim, (v) fasteners between the lid and the rim, or (vi) any combination thereof.

63. The pacifier device of claim 57, wherein the attachment portion is configured to be inserted into the slot when in a first orientation but not when in a second orientation.

64. The pacifier device of claim 57, wherein the attachment portion is coupled to a rear surface of the compartment.

65. The pacifier device of claim 64, wherein the attachment portion generally has (i) a T- shape, (ii) a C-shape, (iii) a Z-shape, (iv) an L-shape, (v) an S-shape, (vi) an X-shape, (vii) a V-shape, or (viii) a Y-shape.

66. The pacifier device of claim 57, wherein the compartment is further configured to the accommodate the sucker in a storing configuration.

67. The pacifier device of claim 66, wherein the compartment has a generally conical shape or pyramidal shape with a base wall configured to accommodate the base portion of the sucker.

68. The pacifier device of claim 66, wherein the compartment has a generally conical shape or pyramidal shape with a vertex against which the nipple portion of the sucker is disposed.

69. The pacifier device of claim 57, further comprising a coupling mechanism on or adjacent to a rear surface of the compartment.

70. The pacifier device of claim 69, wherein the coupling mechanism includes (i) one or more strips of hook-and-loop fasteners disposed on a rear surface of the compartment, (ii) one or more magnetic pieces disposed adjacent to the rear surface of the compartment, or (iii) both (i) and (ii).

71. The pacifier device of claim 57, wherein a rear surface of the compartment includes a curved portion configured to abut a correspondingly-curved portion of an outer surface of the hub.

72. The pacifier device of claim 57, wherein the attachment portion is detachable from the compartment.

73. A pacifier device comprising: a base portion; a nipple portion coupled to and protruding from the base portion in a first direction; and an attachment portion coupled to and protruding from the base portion in a second direction that is generally opposite to the first direction, the attachment portion being configured to rotate with the pacifier device to aid in connecting the pacifier device to a hub.

74. The pacifier device of claim 73, wherein the attachment portion generally has (i) a T- shape, (ii) a C-shape, (iii) a Z-shape, (iv) L-shape, (v) S-shape, (vi) X-shape, (vii) V-shape, or (viii) Y-shape.

75. The pacifier device of claim 73, wherein the base portion further includes a coupling mechanism on or adjacent to a rear surface of the base portion.

76. The pacifier device of claim 75, wherein the coupling mechanism includes (i) one or more strips of hook-and-loop fasteners disposed on the rear surface of the base portion, (ii) one or more magnetic pieces disposed adjacent to the rear surface of the base portion, or (iii) both (i) and (ii).

77. The pacifier device of claim 75, wherein a rear surface of the base portion includes a curved portion configured to abut a correspondingly curved portion of an outer surface of the hub.

78. The pacifier device of claim 73, wherein the attachment portion is coupled to a rear surface of the base portion.

79. The pacifier device of claim 73, wherein the attachment portion is configured to be inserted into a slot positioned for using the pacifier device when in a first orientation but not when in a second orientation.

80. The pacifier device of claim 73, wherein the attachment portion is detachable from the base portion.

81. The pacifier device of claim 73, wherein the attachment portion further includes: an object of plush material, the object having a first pair of bifurcated open branches forming a first notch at a first end of the object and a second pair of bifurcated open branches forming a second notch at a second opposing end of the object; a first tab disposed adjacent to a first side portion of the base portion and coupled to a first of the first pair of bifurcated open branches; a second tab disposed adjacent to an opposing second side portion of the base portion and coupled to a second of the first pair of bifurcated open branches; a third tab disposed adjacent to a first side portion of the attachment portion and coupled to a first of the second pair of bifurcated open branches; and a fourth tab disposed adjacent to a second side portion of the attachment portion and coupled to a second of the second pair of bifurcated open branches.

82. The pacifier device of 81, wherein: the first tab and the second tab are coupled to the first pair of bifurcated open branches using one or more stitches; and the third tab and the fourth tab are coupled to the second pair of bifurcated open branches using one or more stitches.

83. The pacifier device of 81, wherein the object is configured to aid in maintaining a position of the nipple portion when in use.

84. The pacifier device of 81, wherein the object is a single layer of the plush material.

85. A pacifier system comprising: a hub having an outer surface with a slot therein that extends into the hub; and a pacifier device including a nipple portion and an attachment portion, the attachment portion being configured to be inserted into the slot of the hub to aid in connecting the pacifier device with the hub.

86. The pacifier system of claim 85, wherein the pacifier device is configured to be inserted into the slot responsive to the attachment portion being in a first orientation and not when in the attachment portion is in a second orientation.

87. The pacifier system of claim 86, wherein the second orientation is rotated relative to the first orientation an amount that is between about 5 degrees and about 175 degrees.

88. The pacifier system of claim 87, wherein the attachment portion generally has (i) a T- shape, (ii) a C-shape, (iii) a Z-shape, (iv) L-shape, (v) S-shape, (vi) X-shape, (vii) V-shape, or (viii) Y-shape.

89. The pacifier system of claim 85, wherein the pacifier device includes a coupling mechanism.

90. The pacifier system of claim 89, wherein the coupling mechanism includes one or more strips of hook-and-loop fasteners, one or more magnets, or a combination thereof.

91. The pacifier system of claim 85, wherein the nipple portion extends from a first surface of a base portion of the pacifier device and the attachment portion extends from a second surface of the base portion of the pacifier device.

92. The pacifier system of claim 91, wherein the second surface of the base portion of the pacifier device is generally convex such that the second surface is configured to generally abut a portion of the outer surface of the hub.

93. The pacifier system of claim 85, wherein the slot is in communication with a chamber positioned within the hub.

94. The pacifier system of claim 93, wherein the chamber has a first chamber portion and a second chamber portion.

95. The pacifier system of claim 94, wherein the first chamber portion is to configured to (i) receive, from the slot, at least a portion of the attachment portion, responsive to the attachment portion being in a first orientation and not in a second orientation and (ii) permit the attachment portion to rotate within the first chamber from the first orientation to the second orientation, the second orientation being rotated about 90 degrees relative to the first orientation.

96. The pacifier system of claim 95, wherein the second chamber portion is to configured to receive, from the first chamber portion, at least a portion of the attachment portion, responsive to the attachment portion being in the second orientation and not in the first orientation.

97. The pacifier system of claim 96, wherein the second chamber portion is configured to aid in preventing the attachment portion from rotating responsive to at least a portion of the attachment portion being in the second orientation.

98. A pacifier device comprising: a sucker having a base portion and a nipple portion protruding therefrom; and an adapter including an attachment portion and a compartment portion coupled thereto, the attachment portion being configured to aid in connecting the pacifier device with a hub, the compartment portion being configured to receive at least a portion of the sucker therein.

99. The pacifier device of claim 98, wherein the compartment portion includes one or more vents configured to align with one or more breathing apertures of the sucker when received in the compartment portion.

100. The pacifier device of claim 98, wherein the adapter further includes a lid having a central opening for permitting the nipple portion of the sucker to pass therethrough when the sucker is positioned in an operational orientation.

101. The pacifier device of claim 100, wherein the lid further includes one or more vents to align with one or more breathing apertures of the sucker when received in the compartment portion.

102. The pacifier device of claim 98, wherein the compartment portion is further configured to the receive the entire sucker in a storing orientation.

103. A pacifier device comprising: a body having a first side and a second side opposing the first side, the first side and the second side being configured to lie uniformly against a surface of a user; a first arm extending from the body; a first sucker coupled to a distal end portion of the first arm, the distal end portion of the first arm including a first notch to aid access to a portion of the first sucker; a second arm extending from the body; and a second sucker coupled to a distal end portion of the second arm, the distal end portion of the second arm including a second notch to aid access to a portion of the second sucker.

104. The pacifier device of claim 103, wherein the first notch is formed through a bifurcation of the first arm.

The pacifier device of claim 103, wherein in response to the first side or the second side lying uniformly against the surface of the user, both the first sucker and the second sucker adjustably move to aid the user in accessing a first nipple portion of the first sucker and a second nipple portion of the second sucker.

106. The pacifier device of claim 103, wherein the first side and the second side are generally parallel to a mirror plane passing through at least the first sucker and the second sucker.

107. The pacifier device of claim 103, wherein the first notch and the second notch are both accessible when the first side or the second side of the body lies uniformly against the surface of the user.

108. The pacifier device of claim 103, wherein the first notch aids access to the portion of the first sucker by a second user and the second notch aids access to the portion of the second sucker by the second user.

109. The pacifier device of claim 103, wherein the portion of the first sucker is a first finger cavity and the portion of the second sucker is a second finger cavity, wherein each of the first finger cavity and the second finger cavity is configured to receive at least a portion of a finger therein.

A pacifier device comprising: a body having a first side and a second side opposing the first side, the first side and the second side being configured to lie uniformly against a surface of a user; a first arm extending from the body, the first arm having bifurcated open branches that form a first notch at a distal end portion thereof; a first sucker coupled to the distal end portion of the first arm, the first sucker including: a base portion; a nipple portion, coupled to the base portion and extending in a first direction therefrom, the nipple portion and the base portion of the first sucker defining a finger cavity configured to receive at least a portion of a finger therein; and an attachment portion coupled to the base portion and extending in a second opposing direction therefrom, the attachment portion including a first tab located adjacent to a first side portion of the base portion and a second tab located adjacent to an opposing second side portion of the base portion, a first of the bifurcated open branches of the first arm being coupled to the first tab and a second of the bifurcated open branches of the first arm being coupled to the second tab such that the first notch aids in providing access to the finger cavity of the first sucker; and a second arm extending from the body, the second arm having bifurcated open branches that form a second notch at a distal end portion thereof; and a second sucker coupled to the distal end portion of the second arm.

PACIFIER DEVICES

CROSS-REFERENCE TO RELATED APPLICATIONS

[0001] This International (PCT) application claims the benefit of, and priority to, U.S. Patent Application No. 17/387,515, filed on July 28, 2021, which is a continuation-in-part of U.S. Patent Application No. 17/028,677, filed on September 22, 2020, each of which is hereby incorporated by reference herein in its entirety.

TECHNICAL FIELD

[0002] This disclosure relates to pacifier devices and more specifically to pacifier devices with multiple suckers.

BACKGROUND

[0003] Parents and care givers use pacifiers to help soothe babies for many reasons. Often, babies spit out the pacifier and/or lose the pacifier unintentionally, which can cause the baby to become upset. In some instances, babies hold a portion of the pacifier, but cannot readily locate the sucker portion that they want to suck or chew.

[0004] Pacifiers have been coupled to plush toys which can stimulate and engage infants. However, the attached toy can be distracting and even frustrating to the child, parent or guardian. Where the device, such as a plush toy with one sucker, can be placed on an infant, the placement of the toy can determine if the sucker is well positioned to be accepted by the infant’s mouth. Attachment of the sucker to the plush toy is also typically by a single tab, where if the toy falls on the wrong side, the sucker can end up face down. Therefore, the sucker can end up poorly oriented with respect to the infant, or far from the infant, who may try to suck or chew on whatever portion of the plush animal or sucker is closest to their mouth. Conventional suckers are also not symmetric from top to bottom and, when in use, ventilation holes, that are located in a top portion, are close to the infant’s nose to facilitate breathing. If the plush animal is upside down, the ventilation holes are not properly disposed and can cause discomfort leading to the child spitting out the pacifier and or crying. The plush toy in general is also easy to tip over, or has low symmetry, and this can exacerbate the frustrations already noted. These issues may require the parent or guardian to repeatedly intervene and re-orient the plush animal so the pacifier is directed into the infant’s mouth.

[0005] There is therefore a need for pacifier and pacifier devices that are easy for a child to locate and use. The present disclosure is directed to this need and addressing other problems. SUMMARY

[0006] According to some implementations of the present disclosure, a pacifier device includes a body. A first arm and a second arm extend from the body. A first sucker is coupled to a distal end portion of the first arm, and a second sucker is coupled to a distal end portion of the second arm. Optionally, the pacifier device further includes a third arm extending from the body, and a third sucker coupled to a distal end portion of the third arm.

[0007] According to some implementations of the present disclosure, a pacifier system includes a body and a pacifier device. The body has an outer surface with a slot therein that extends into the body. The pacifier device includes a nipple portion and an attachment portion. The nipple portion extends in a first direction and the attachment portion extends in a second direction. The attachment portion is configured to be inserted into the slot of the body to aid in connecting the pacifier device with the body.

[0008] According to some implementations of the present disclosure, a pacifier device having a sucker and an adapter. The sucker has a base portion and a nipple portion protruding therefrom. The adapter includes a compartment and a compartment portion coupled thereto. The attachment portion is configured to aid in connecting the pacifier device with a hub. The compartment portion is configured to accommodate at least a portion of the sucker therein.

DETAILED DESCRIPTION
