Abstract:
Provided is a paper currency handling device which is capable of accurately determining quantities of paper sheets. This paper currency handling device (1) comprises an area computation unit (31) and a determination unit (32). On the basis of the thickness and contours of conveyed paper currency, the area computation unit (31) computes an area which is the total of accumulated areas of overlapping regions of the conveyed paper currency within the contours of the conveyed paper currency and areas of non-overlapping regions of the conveyed paper currency within the contours of the conveyed paper currency. The determination unit (32) determines the quantity of the conveyed paper currency on the basis of the total area which has been computed by the area computation unit (31).
