Abstract:
This invention provides a particulate polymer for use in a binder for a lithium-ion secondary battery. Said particulate polymer exhibits excellent adhesiveness in a liquid electrolyte and can improve the low-temperature output characteristics of the lithium-ion secondary battery. This particulate polymer is characterized by a core-shell structure comprising a core section containing a total of at least 50 wt.% of (meth)acrylic ester monomer units and (meth)acrylonitrile monomer units and a shell section containing at least 20 wt.% of aromatic vinyl monomer units. This particulate polymer is also characterized in that after a film formed by said particulate polymer has been immersed for 72 hours in a liquid electrolyte at 60°C, said film exhibits an ionic conductivity between 1×10-5 and 1×103 S/cm, inclusive, and a tensile strength between 500 and 4,000 N/cm2, inclusive.
