Title:
PERFLUOROCARBON COPOLYMER HAVING FUNCTIONAL GROUPS AND PROCESS FOR PRODUCING THE SAME
Document Type and Number:
WIPO Patent Application WO/1995/010541
Kind Code:
A1
Abstract:
A perfluorocarbon copolymer having functional groups is produced by dispersing a perfluorocarbon monomer having a functional group, represented by the following general formula (1): CF2 = CF-O-(CF2CF(CF3)-O)n-(CF2)m-Z, in water in the form of fine particles having an average diameter of 2 'mu'm or less, adding at least one water-soluble organic chain transfer agent selected from the group consisting of C1-C6 aliphatic alcohols and C2-C6 ethers to the resultant dispersion, and copolymerizing the monomer (1) with tetrafluoroethylene, wherein m represents an integer of 2 to 4; Z represents CO2R (wherein R represents C1-C3 alkyl) or SO2F; and n represents 1 or 2 when Z represents CO2R, while n represents an integer of 0 to 2 when Z represents SO2F. The invention process prevents the formation of a tetrafluoroethylene homopolymer in water phase and provides a perfluorocarbon copolymer excellent in melt moldability and functions.
