Abstract:
A tip for a phaco-emulsification handpiece is disclosed. The geometry of the tip advantageously minimizes cavitation of the irrigation fluid supplied by the handpiece. The tip may be formed with shunt flow orifices that minimize the dangers of overpressure of the eye and eye chamber collapse when the tip of the needle becomes occluded. Various advantageous geometries and locations of the shunt flow orifices are disclosed.
