Abstract:
The present invention relates to a pharmaceutical composition or health functional food for treating or preventing eye diseases, comprising a verbenone derivative and a pharmaceutically acceptable salt thereof as active ingredients. More specifically, the verbenone derivative of the present invention acts as a CD147 inhibitor that weakens corneal fibrosis and inhibits corneal opacity and related myofibroblast differentiation through MMP-9 activation, and thus can treat and prevent eye diseases by suppressing eye damage and inflammation, such as conjunctivitis, corneal burn, or dry eye syndrome, and alleviating symptoms.
