Abstract:
A photo-detection device (4) used for an image pickup is provided with a plurality of photodetectors (6) arranged along at least a first direction on a substrate (5), a low refractive index transparent layer (12) formed at the upper portion of the plurality of the photodetectors, and a high refractive index transparent section (13) embedded in the low refractive index transparent layer along the first direction. In the cross section intersected at right angles with the substrate of the high refractive index transparent section along the first direction, the central axis (14) of the high refractive index transparent section (13) is bent in a stepwise fashion. Light incident on the low refractive index transparent layer and the high refractive index transparent section is separated into the 0-order diffraction light, the 1st-order diffraction light and the –1st-order diffraction light by passing through the low refractive index transparent layer and the high refractive index transparent section. Hence, both the improvement of light utilization efficiency and the high density of pixels can be compatibly achieved.
