Abstract:
A photocatalyst which comprises the oxynitride(s) of at least one transition metal and optionally further contains at least one element selected from the group consisting of alkali metals, alkaline earth metals, and Group IIIB metals. The photocatalyst is desirably one in which the transition metal is selected from the group consisting of lanthanum, tantalum, niobium, titanium, and zirconium and the metal which may be further contained is selected from the group consisting of calcium, strontium, barium, sodium, potassium, and rubidium. The photocatalyst preferably has platinum and nickel supported thereon as a promoter.
