A photoelectric sensing step counting treadmill, comprising a main support and a pedestal (2). A step counting device is provided in the pedestal (2) and comprises a shielding sheet (51) at the lower end of a main base (22) and a photoelectric sensor (6) fixedly provided on a chassis (11); the shielding sheet (51) is connected to the lower end of the main base (22) by means of a linear motor (52); the photoelectric sensor (6) comprises a photoelectric emitting end (61) and a photoelectric receiving end (62) opposite to each other; the photoelectric sensor (6) is electrically connected to a step counting display screen (38); at least two sets of airbags (7) for supporting and lifting the main base (22) are provided between the front end of the main base (22) and the chassis (11); each set of airbags (7) is communicated by means of a communicating pipe (72); one end of the communicating pipe (72) is provided with an electromagnetic vent valve (73), and the other end of the communicating pipe (72) is connected to an electric air pump (75) by means of an air inlet pipe (76). Also disclosed is a step counting method for the photoelectric sensing step counting treadmill.
