Abstract:

Cyanine dyes which have high solubilities in solvents having high evaporation rates and are stable against light, thus being improved in productivity and capable of realizing optical recording media having excellent light resistance, particularly optical disks, i.e., CD-R and DVD-R. The optical recording medium comprises a composite photostabilized cyanine dye comprising a paired ion of an anion represented by general formula (1) and a cation represented by general formula (2), wherein R�01? and R�02? each represent (a) (wherein R�11? and R�12? each represent a 1-4 C alkyl group or a phenyl group), (b) (wherein m is 3, 4, 5, or 6), (c) or a phenyl group; M represents a transition metal; Z�1? and Z�2? each represent a fused benzene ring or a fused naphthalene ring; R�21? and R�22? each represent an alkyl group; and n is 0, 1, or 2.
