Abstract:
A pipe ultrasonic flaw detecting apparatus and ultrasonic flaw detecting method for detecting a small defect, if any, of several hundreds micrometers or less present in a thick portion of a welded part of, e.g., a seam-welded pipe by inspecting the pipe from the inner to outer surface and enabling determination of a most suitable condition when a pipe under test has a different size. A part of the vibrators of a linear array probe are used as a transmitting vibrators, and a transmission beam converged at the welded part at an oblique angle is transmitted. The other vibrators different from the transmitting vibrators are used as receiving vibrators to form a receiving beam converged at the converged position of the transmission beam at an oblique angle. Thus, defect echoes from the welded part can be received if the pipe has a defect.
