Abstract:
Provided are a plant growth promoting material that is capable of improving soil serving as a base for plant growth to give conditions suitable for the plant growth, and a method for producing the same. Carbon quantum dots are produced by heating an organic starting material such as sorghum in an oxygen-free atmosphere at a preset temperature and thus thermally decomposing the initial components except carbon in the atmosphere and in the organic substance, one by one in the order of decomposition temperature with the component having the lowest decomposition temperature first, at a temperature of 500°C or lower to thereby individually separate the components. Then, the obtained carbon quantum dots are dispersed in water and the thus generated negative ions are applied to soil or a plant so as to allow the carbon quantum dots to penetrate into bacteria in the soil or the plant growing in the soil. Thus, the vital actions of the bacteria or the plant can be activated by the alkaline effect of the negative ions and the stimulating effect of the carbon quantum dots so as to promote the soil improvement or the plant growth.
