Abstract:
This plastic scintillation fiber can be used to detect a neutron beam and can be produced with excellent efficiency. This plastic scintillation fiber according to one embodiment of this invention comprises an outermost peripheral layer (1) comprising a plastic material that includes an organic compound including an element having a neutron reaction cross section larger than that of hydrogen and emits scintillation light when irradiated by a neutron beam, a high-refractive-index core (2) that is provided inside the outermost peripheral layer (1) and includes at least one type of fluorescent substance that absorbs the scintillation light and converts the wavelength of the same to a long wavelength, and a cladding layer (3) that covers the outer peripheral surface of the core (2) and has a lower refractive index than that of the core (2). A wavelength conversion fiber, which includes the core (2) and cladding layer (3), and the outermost peripheral layer (1), which covers the outer peripheral surface of the wavelength conversion fiber, are formed so as to be integrated.
