Abstract:
A polarizing member formed by adhering a transparent protective film or an optical functional film to at least one surface of a polarizing membrane, wherein: the polarizing membrane is formed by adsorbing and aligning iodine on a polyvinyl alcohol film; the iodine concentration greater than 10 wt%; the transparent protective film or the optical functional film is a first film that has a water vapor permeability of at most 200 g/(m2∙24 h); the polarizing film has a single transmittance of at most 41%; and the polarizing film satisfies the condition that the change (∆Ts) in single transmittance represented by general formula (1) (∆Ts(%) = Ts96 – Ts0) is 0-5%. In the polarizing film, the initial single transmittance of the polarization membrane having a large iodine content is at most 41%, and the film excels in suppressing decreases in the single transmittance due to coloring of the polarizing film in high-temperature environments, and also excels in suppressing decreases in the degree of polarization in high-temperature, high-humidity environments (wetting durability).
