Abstract:
Disclosed are polymer-coated ferrite microparticles which exhibit suitable water dispersion properties and an excellent biomolecular immobilisation ability, and which can be controlled so as to have a uniform particle diameter. Further disclosed is a simple production method for the microparticles. In an aqueous solvent, a polyacrylic acid is chelated with ferrous ions, the resulting chelate complex is protected, and then an alkali is added. Subsequently, the reaction system is heated under pressurised conditions, causing the precipitation of ferrite microparticles and the coating of said microparticles to occur simultaneously. As a result, polymer-coated ferrite microparticles having a uniform particle diameter can be obtained in large quantities, in one step and with good repeatability. The disclosed polymer-coated ferrite microparticles exhibit suitable water dispersion properties and an excellent biomolecular immobilisation ability as a result of the carboxyl groups derived from the polyacrylic acid.
