Abstract:
This polymer electrolyte fuel cell is provided with: a sealing structure (9) that contains a first gasket (9a), which is annular, approximately rectangular, positioned at the outside of the margin of a first gas diffusion layer (5), and positioned between a first separator (7) and a first catalyst layer (2) that is at the margin of a polymer electrolyte membrane (1), and a second gasket (9b), which is annular, approximately rectangular, positioned at the outside of the margin of the polymer electrolyte membrane (1) , and positioned between the first separator (7) and a second separator (8); and at least the first catalyst layer (2), a second catalyst layer (3), and a swellable resin section (11) that comprises a swellable resin of which the volume expands when water is added and that is positioned between the first gasket (9a) and the first catalyst layer (2) that is at the margin of the polymer electrolyte membrane (1).
