Abstract:

A polymer electrolyte for a solid polymer type fuel cell, which comprises an aromatic polyether sulfone block copolymer having a hydrophilic segment containing a sulfonic acid group and a hydrophobic segment containing no sulfonic acid group, wherein the relationship of 0.6 < W2/W1 < 2.0 is satisfied, where W1 and W2 represent the weight proportions of the hydrophobic segment and the hydrophilic segment, respectively. The polymer electrolyte can be produced at a low cost, has high durability, and also exhibits a proton conductivity which is reduced in the change by temperature or humidity.
