Abstract:
Provided are poly(vinyl alcohol)-based fibers having excellent thermal aging resistance when used for long periods under high temperature conditions. The poly(vinyl alcohol)-based fibers having excellent thermal aging resistance contain an antioxidant constituted from a water-soluble inorganic or organic salt of at least one type of metal selected from among the group consisting of manganese, copper, iron, nickel, cobalt and zinc, and a boron compound that acts as a chelating agent for the antioxidant, wherein the content of the antioxidant in the fibers is 0.05 mass % or higher and the proportion (in terms of mass %) of the boron compound relative to the antioxidant is 0.5 mass % or higher.
