Description:
Pool Cleaner

THIS INVENTION relates to a pool cleaner. More particularly, the invention relates to a pool cleaner suction hose, a suction-type pool cleaner, a pool cleaner accessory and a pool cleaner kit. The invention also relates to a method of manufacturing a pool cleaner suction hose.

The invention is expected to be advantageously applicable to use with automatic suction-type pool cleaners. Accordingly, such applications should particularly, but not exclusively, be borne in mind when considering this specification.

Summary of the Invention In accordance with the invention, broadly, there is provided a luminescent pool cleaner suction hose.

More particularly and according to a first aspect of the invention, there is provided a pool cleaner suction hose which includes:

a suction hose section having couplings at opposed ends of the section for connecting the section to hose sections of the like, the suction hose section being of luminescent material.

The luminescent material may include any one or more of a fluorescent, bioluminescent and phosphorescent material such that, in use, a pool cleaner suction hose made up of a plurality of the hose sections emits light at night time and thus provides a glow-in-the-dark effect for visual appeal of the hose when submerged in a swimming pool. The couplings at opposed ends of the section may be of luminescent material. Naturally, the couplings may include a rigid, luminescent male coupling at one end of the hose section and a rigid, luminescent female coupling at another end thereof. In a preferred embodiment of the invention, the suction hose section and rigid couplings are integrally manufactured from the luminescent material. The luminescent material may include an amount of phosphorous material, for example any one or more of Zinc Sulphide and Strontium Aluminate, combined with the clear plastic polypropylene from which pool suction hoses are traditionally manufactured. The luminescent material may include an amount of an ultraviolet stabiliser, for example Titanium Dioxide, for protecting the pool cleaner suction hose from harmful ultraviolet rays.

The luminescent material may include a colourant, such as a blue or red colourant, such that in use, the pool cleaner suction hose made up of the plurality of hose sections emits a coloured light for visual appeal of the hose when submerged in the swimming pool.

It should be appreciated that the invention extends to a suction-type pool cleaner having a body that is substantially manufactured from the luminescent material.

According to yet another aspect of the invention, there is provided a suction-type pool cleaner having a body that is substantially manufactured from a luminescent material.

According to another aspect of the invention, there is provided a pool cleaner accessory, which includes a luminescent body being shaped and dimensioned to fit onto any one of a pool cleaner suction hose and a suction-type pool cleaner.

A pool cleaner kit, which includes any one or more of a suction-type pool cleaner hose, a suction-type pool cleaner and a pool cleaner accessory, as herein described. According to yet another aspect of the invention, there is provided a method of manufacturing a pool cleaner suction hose which includes:

taking an amount of polypropylene and combining it with an amount of phosphorous material to provide a luminescent suction hose.

The invention is now described, by way of non-limiting example, with reference to the accompanying diagrammatic drawings. Drawings

In the drawings:

Figure 1 shows, schematically, a three-dimensional view of a pool cleaner suction hose in accordance with one aspect of the invention.

Figure 2 shows, schematically, a side view of the pool cleaner suction hose in accordance with the same aspect of the invention.

Figure 3 shows, schematically, a three-dimensional cut-away view of a pool cleaner suction hose, in use, and in accordance with another aspect of the invention. In the drawings, like reference numerals denote like parts of the invention unless otherwise indicated.

Detailed Description of the Invention With reference to figure 1 of the drawings, reference numeral 10 denotes, generally, a pool cleaner suction hose which includes a suction hose section 12 having couplings 14 and 16 at opposed ends of the section 12 for connecting the section 12 to hose sections of the like, the suction hose 10 being of luminescent material.

In figure 2 of the drawings, a side view of the pool cleaner suction hose of figure 1 is denoted by numeral 30. In a preferred embodiment of the invention, the pool cleaner suction hose 30 has an overall, ideal length L of 1 m, and the section 12 has an ideal diameter d1 of 45mm. In this embodiment of the invention, the couplings 14 and 16 are respectively provided as rigid female and male couplings integrally manufactured with the section 12 from the luminescent material. The female coupling 14 has an ideal diameter c/2 of 47mm and the male coupling 16 has an ideal diameter d3 of 41 mm.

Turning to figure 3 of the drawings, reference numeral 40 denotes the pool cleaner suction hose of figures 1 and 2 in use. The pool cleaner suction hose 42 is made up of a plurality of suction hoses of the kind in figures 1 and 2 and is shown here in a swimming pool 46 and attached to an automatic suction-type pool cleaner 44. The suction hose 42, and hence the suction hoses 10 and 30, include any one or more of a fluorescent and phosphorescent material, such that, in use, the pool cleaner suction hose 42 emits light at night time and provides a glow-in-the-dark effect for visual appeal. It should be appreciated that, in figure 3, the pool cleaner 44 has a main body that is also manufactured of the luminescent material.

Further, in this embodiment, the luminescent material includes an amount of phosphorous material, i.e. any one or more of Zinc Sulphide and Strontium Aluminate, combined with the clear plastic polypropylene from which pool suction hoses are traditionally manufactured. The luminescent material also includes an amount of Titanium Dioxide as an ultraviolet stabiliser, for protecting the pool cleaner suction hose from harmful ultraviolet rays.

Advantageously, the luminescent material of the pool cleaner suction hose includes a colourant, in this embodiment a blue colourant, to enhance the visual appeal. Accordingly, the colourant may be tailored to a purchaser's choice.
