Abstract:
A honeycomb structure composed of a porous cell barrier wall forming a complex of a plurality of adjacent cells, and a porous honeycomb outer wall for holding the outermost circumferential cell of the cell complex while surrounding wherein the porosity is lower than 30%, basic thickness of the barrier wall is 0.03−0.076mm, surface roughness of the outer wall is 0.5−10µm or the average height from the maximal point to the minimal point on the surface of the outer wall is 5−50µm. The honeycomb structure is produced using a material containing coarse particle talc having mean particle size of 7µm or above, fine particle talc having mean particle size of 2&sol 3 or less that of the coarse particle talc, coarse particle kaolin having mean particle size of 7µm or above, and fine particle kaolin having mean particle size of 2&sol 3 or less that of the coarse particle kaolin. The honeycomb structure is suitable as a catalyst carrier for purifying exhaust gas of automobile.
