Abstract:

A portable electronic device according to an embodiment of the present invention has a first value information storage unit, a second value information storage unit, a transaction processing unit, and a switching processing unit. The first value information storage unit stores first value information that corresponds to the balance of a previously received amount of money. The second value information storage unit stores second value information that can be used in the settlement of credit transactions. The transaction processing unit performs an advance payment settlement process for subtracting the first value information stored by the first value information storage unit and settling accounts in accordance with the amount of a transaction. When a prescribed condition based on information pertaining to the transaction is satisfied, the switching processing unit: converts the first value information stored by the first value information storage unit to the second value information; causes the second value information to be stored by the second value information storage unit; and, while disabling the function of the advance payment settlement process, enables the function of a credit transaction settlement process.
