Abstract:
Provided is a power assisted bicycle in which: attachment to an ordinary bicycle is relatively easy; repair and inspection of a motor are also easy; maintaining a uniform weight balance between the front and rear wheels is easy; and moreover, pedaling power from the legs, particularly when initiating travel, can be reduced. The present invention comprises: a power generator 1 in which a sprocket S for power generation, which engages with a chain CH stretched between a main sprocket S1 and a rear sprocket S2, is mounted to a rotary shaft for power generation and fixed to part of a frame F between the front and rear wheels; a capacitor 2 which stores power generated by the power generator 1; a regenerative function-equipped motor 3 which is driven by the power from the power generator 1 and applies rotational force to a crankshaft 100A; a speed detection means 4 which detects the travel speed of a bicycle 100; a control unit 51 which controls the amount of power supplied from the capacitor 2 to the motor 3 in accordance with the travel speed of the bicycle 100 as detected by the speed detection means 4; and an accommodation box 6 which is installed in a space in the frame between the front and rear wheels and accommodates the capacitor 2 and a control means.
