This power management device assesses, on the basis of information regarding a prescribed power transfer performed between application-side equipment that is a self-managed load or generator and counterpart-side equipment that is another load or generator, whether another load or generator that is managed by the power management device and that can transfer at least some of the prescribed power is present as the counterpart equipment. In cases where another load or generator is present, said power management device executes an intra-region power adjustment process in which a control for transferring power between the application-side equipment and the other load or generator id performed. In cases where no other load or generator is present, said power management device executes an inter-region power adjustment process in which: a requested device, which is a device other than the power management device and which manages the load or generator that can transfer at least some of the prescribed power, is searched for on the basis of prescribed criteria relating to the power system; and, in cases where it was possible to search for the requested device, a control is performed for transferring power between the application-side equipment and the load or generator managed by the requested device.
