A power storage system that has excellent characteristics. A power storage system that is highly safe. A power storage system that experiences little deterioration. A storage battery that has excellent characteristics. A method of operation for a power storage system that has a storage battery, a first circuit that can measure impedance, and a neural network, the method involving: a first step in which the charging or discharging of the storage battery is suspended; a second step in which the open-circuit voltage of the storage battery is measured; a third step in which the impedance of the storage battery is measured; a fourth step in which the measured open-circuit voltage and impedance are inputted to an input layer; a fifth step in which a first signal is outputted from an output layer; a sixth step in which conditions for the charging or discharging of the storage battery are modified in accordance with the first signal; and a seventh step in which charging or discharging of the storage battery is initiated. The first signal corresponds to an estimated value for the discharge capacity of the storage battery.
