Abstract:
The present invention relates to a power supply device and method for a reduction of standby power in an electronic device such as a computer, and can comprise a standby power control unit for: controlling a standby power cutoff unit so as to be in a standby power supply state with respect to a main board of the electronic device, in response to the input of an ON signal from a power switch for ON/OFF switching of the electronic device, and then transmitting a preset first signal to the main board, and allowing a main power unit of the electronic device to supply main power to the main board according to a second signal preset to the main board in response to the first signal; and, in a state in which the second signal has been received, controlling the standby power cutoff unit so as to be in a standby power cutoff state with respect to the main board when an OFF signal is received from the power switch, or functioning so as to reduce standby power in the corresponding electronic device on the basis of a determination on whether the electronic device is in a sleep mode according to a current value sensed by a current sensor for sensing the output current value of a standby power unit.
