Title:
PRESS FORMING DIES
Document Type and Number:
WIPO Patent Application WO/2012/101826
Kind Code:
A1
Abstract:
Provided are press forming dies susceptible to wear. Dies (2, 4) are press forming dies produced by a casting process. The dies (2, 4) are provided with grooves (2a, 2b, 4a, 4b) formed on both sides of crests which make contact with a workpiece (W) so as to bend the workpiece (W) into a protruding shape when forming the workpiece (W) into a desired shape. In a casting process, the grooves on both sides of the crests facilitate the release of the heat of the portions of molten metal which correspond to the crests, and thus the grooves promote cooling. Consequently, because the more rapid the cooling in a casting process, the higher the hardness of the casting, the dies have improved hardness at the portions thereof which make strong contact with the workpiece.
