Abstract:
An embodiment of the present invention is a printer that performs printing on a printing medium having a thermosensitve coloring layer. This printer comprises: a thermal head having a plurality of heat-generating elements arranged in a line; a pulse setting unit which sets a first application period for an energizing pulse which is for providing, to the plurality of heat-generating elements, thermal energy to cause coloring of a thermosensitive coloring layer in a printing cycle of one line; an application period correction unit which, on the basis of an image of a printing target, corrects the length of the first application period that was set by the pulse setting unit; and a printing speed determination unit which, by lengthening the printing cycle so as to accommodate the maximum length of the first application period after being corrected by the application period correction unit, determines a printing speed when the entirety of an image is to be printed at a constant speed.
