Title:
PROCESS FOR CONSERVING HYDROCARBON FUELS BY REACTING HYDROCARBON FUEL WITH WATER TO THEREBY CONVERT WATER TO A FUEL
Document Type and Number:
WIPO Patent Application WO/1982/002241
Kind Code:
A1
Abstract:
A process for conserving hydrocarbon fuels by reacting a hydrocarbon fuel with water to thereby convert water to a fuel, introducing the thus modified fuel into a flame of a pure hydrocarbon fuel to obtain a heat gain due to the water-derived component and a heat gain due to the heat generated in the flame. The hydrocarbon fuel and water are heated to 400 C to vaporize them, and reacted with each other under the action of a catalyst primarily comprising nickelous oxide (NiO) to produce carbon monoxide and methane, and the reaction product is introduced to the suitable position of a flame of a separately maintained pure hydrocarbon fuel to obtain more heat than would have been obtained by combusting the original hydrocarbon fuel directly, without conversion to carbon monoxide and methane. This method is expected to conserve hydrocarbon fuels. Main applications of this invention are in boilers of steam power plants, burners for blast furnaces in the iron-making industry, boilers in general, etc.
