Abstract:
A process for making neutral paper using a substituted succinic anhydride as sizing agent, which comprises a continuous dispersion step of forming a W/O type emulsion from a substituted succinic anhydride, surfactant and water, and effecting phase inversion of the emulsion by diluting it with water. The result O/W emulsion has excellent storage stability and water dilution stability and, since the emulsion has usually an average particle size of as fine as 1 mum or less, it shows an excellent sizing effect.
