Abstract:
A process for the preparation of 2-amino acids of the general formula [II]: RCH(NH¿2?)COOH (wherein R is hydrogen, optionally substituted C¿1-6? alkyl, or the like), characterized by hydrolyzing a 2-aminonitrile of the general formula [I]: RCH(NH¿2?)CN into a 2-amino acid of the general formula [II] in an aqueous solution containing a polybasic acid salt by the use of a biocatalyst exhibiting a nitrile-hydrolyzing activity.
