Abstract:
The invention provides a process by which optically active 1-substituted amino-2,3-epoxypropanes useful as intermediates in the production of agricultural chemicals, drugs and so on can be efficiently produced with industrial advantage from optically active 1-substituted amino-2,3-propanediols, and intermediates useful in the process, specifically, a process which comprises reacting an optically active 1-substituted amino-2,3-propanediol (1) with an ortho-acid ester (2), thionyl chloride (3), or the like to form an optically active cyclic compound (4), reacting the compound (4) with a ring-opening reagent capable of introducing a halogen atom (X) to form a halogen compound (5), and finally subjecting the compound (5) to ring closure with a base to form an optically active 1-substituted amino-2,3-epoxypropane (6).
