Abstract:
A process for the preparation of a rubber-reinforced styrene resin, which comprises using polymerization equipment essentially constituted of a prepolymerizer, a mixing means and a circulation reactor connected by a circulating line, and a plug flow type reactor, feeding a feedstock solution into the prepolymerizer continuously to conduct prepolymerization, feeding a fluid obtained by the propolymerization into a mixer to mix this fluid with a circulating fluid fed from the circulation reactor at a flow rate of 0.5 to 3 times by volume that of the fluid fed from the prepolymerizer into the mixer, dispersing the rubbery polymer contained in the resulting mixture into particles by a mechanical shear force, and feeding the resulting mixture into the plug flow reactor to conduct polymerization. The process makes it possible to give constantly a product well balanced among impact strength, appearance characteristics and colorability at a high rate without changing the mechanical shear force affecting the particle diameter.
