Abstract:
A process for preparing an optically active alcohol represented by general formula (IV), characterized by reducing a compound represented by general formula (I), preferably a compound represented by general formula (I'), with hydroborane in the presence of a chiral $g(b)-amino alcohol represented by general formula (II) and a compound represented by the general formula (III): B(OR?7�)�3?. This process enables the preparation of optically active alcohols useful as pharmaceuticals, agricultural chemicals, or intermediates for the synthesis thereof.
