Abstract:
A process for producing a high−quality aromatic polymer through successive batch polymerization, in which a polymerizer comprising a reaction tank having a feed opening and a polymer discharge opening, stirrer, distillation tube, reaction−temperature controller, and reaction−pressure controller is used to condensation−polymerize an aromatic feed material to batch−wise produce an aromatic polymer. The polycondensation is conducted under such conditions that the temperature of those parts of the reactor which are in contact with the space for the reaction is kept at 150 to 300°C during the reaction, the final reaction temperature is regulated so as to be in the range of 300 to 400°C, the reaction temperature is raised at a rate of 0.5 °C&sol min or lower with respect to heating from 280°C to the final reaction temperature, and after the temperature reaches the final reaction temperature, the pressure inside the reaction system is reduced to 25 to 200 Torr.
