Abstract:
Disclosed is a process for industrially advantageously producing a symmetric dialkyl carbonate and an asymmetric dialkyl carbonate simultaneously by a transesterification reaction of an alkylene carbonate with two or more alcohols. Also disclosed is a process for efficiently producing high-purity diethyl carbonate by transesterification of ethylene carbonate or propylene carbonate with ethanol. Specifically disclosed is a process for producing a symmetric dialkyl carbonate and an asymmetric dialkyl carbonate simultaneously by subjecting an alkylene carbonate and two or more alcohols to a transesterification reaction in the same reactor. Also specifically disclosed is a process for producing diethyl carbonate by subjecting ethylene carbonate or propylene carbonate and ethanol to a transesterification reaction, wherein the process includes a step of performing separation by distillation of a fraction containing an ether compound by performing extractive distillation of a reaction product obtained by the transesterification reaction using ethylene glycol or propylene glycol as an extraction solvent.
