Abstract:
A process for producing an optically active epoxy compound on an industrial scale, comprising carrying out asymmetric epoxidation of a prochiral unsaturated compound with an oxidizer in the presence of, as a catalyst, a monomer represented by any of the following formulae (I), (I’), (II), (II’), (III), (III’), (IV) and (IV’), or a di-μ-oxo-dimer derived therefrom. (I) (I’) (II) (II’) (III) (III’) (IV) (IV’) wherein each of R1s independently is an alkyl or aryl; each of R2s independently is an alkyl or aryl; each of R3s independently is an alkyl or aryl, provided that two R3s may be bonded with each other to thereby form a ring; each of R4s independently is a hydrogen atom, a halogen atom, an alkyl, an alkoxy, nitro or cyano; and M is a TiY2 (Y is Cl, an alkoxide or a μ-oxo ligand).
