Abstract:
A selenium compound, a nitrogenous aromatic compound, and an acid are mixed together optionally in the presence of a solvent to obtain an oxidation catalyst composition. The oxidation catalyst composition obtained shows catalytic activity in the oxidation reactions of organic compounds. For example, by reacting an olefin compound having two or more hydrogen atoms on the &agr -position carbon atom of the carbon-carbon double bond with an organic hydroperoxide compound in the presence of the oxidation catalyst composition, at least one oxygenic compound selected from the group consisting of alcohol compounds, aldehyde compounds, ketone compounds, and carboxylic acid compound is obtained.
