Abstract:

A process for producing a polycarbonate by the transesterification between a dihydroxy compound and a carbonic diester with a reduced amount of the catalyst to be used in a short time at a good productivity, wherein the dihydroxy compound or the diester is contacted with an active-hydrogen-containing nitrogenous heterocyclic compound and/or a metallic compound as the catalyst, or use is made of an active-hydrogen-containing nitrogenous heterocyclic compound, a metallic compound and a nitrogenous basic organic compound as the catalyst. The obtained polycarbonate is coloration-free and excellent in, e.g., hydrolysis resistance.
