Abstract:
A process for producing isotropic porous carbonaceous material which little causes cracking in the production step, is excellent in strengths, and is isotropic in strengths, thermal conductivity, etc., said process comprising carbonizing or graphitizing a nearly spherical, open-cellular phenolic resin foam which has a mean cell diameter of 1 to 300 mum and a content of each of cells having a diameter of at most one half of the mean cell diameter and cells having a diameter of at least a double of the mean cell diameter of 10 % or above.
