Abstract:
Either a microorganism which has been modified so as to have enhanced fumarate reductase activity or a product of treatment of the microorganism is caused to act on an organic raw material in a reaction liquid containing carbonate ions, hydrogen carbonate ions, or carbon dioxide gas to generate succinic acid. Preferably, either a microorganism which has been modified so as to have enhanced fumarate reductase activity, enhanced pyruvate carboxylase activity, and reduced lactate dehydrogenase activity or a product of treatment of the microorganism is caused to act on an organic raw material in a reaction liquid containing carbonate ions, hydrogen carbonate ions, or carbon dioxide gas to generate succinic acid. The succinic acid thus generated is recovered to produce succinic acid.
