Abstract:
A process for producing tris(pentafluorophenyl)borane which comprises reacting chloropentafluorobenzene with an organometallic compound (formula 1: RM) such as sec-butyllithium in an ether solvent or an ether/hydrocarbon mixed solvent to obtain a pentafluorophenylmetal (formula 2: C¿6?H¿5?M) such as pentafluorophenyllithium and reacting the reaction product with a boron compound (formula 3: BX¿3?) such as boron trichloride. Thus, the target compound is synthesized from inexpensive materials through a small number of steps in a high yield. In the formulae, R represents a C¿1-10? hydrocarbon group; M represents an alkali metal; and X's may be the same or different and each represents halogeno or alkoxy.
