Abstract:
A process for the production of fluoro(trifluoro- methyl)cinnamic acid, which comprises the step (a) of reacting chrolo(trifluoromethyl)benzaldehyde with a metal fluoride in the presence of a catalyst to form fluoro(trifluoromethyl)- benzaldehyde and the step (b) of reacting the fluoro- (trifluoromethyl)benzaldehyde with acetic anhydride and a metal acetate to form the objective substance, that is, fluoro(tri- fluoromethyl)cinnamic acid. The process permits the use of industrially easily available chemicals as the raw materials. According to the invention, no by-products difficult of separation are formed, so that the objective substance can be efficiently obtained at a high purity with a lowered load in the purification following the reactions.
