Abstract:
Disclosed is a novel process for producing a serine derivative and an optically active form thereof by a simple procedure. The process comprises the step of reacting an L-&agr -amino acid represented by the formula (I): (wherein R1 represents a specified hydrocarbon group) with an aldehyde represented by the formula (II): (wherein R2 represents a specified hydrocarbon group) in the presence of a specific enzyme to produce an L-serine derivative represented by the formula (III).
