Abstract:
A process for the production of optically active 1-(2-trifluoromethylphenyl)ethylamine or salts thereof which comprises reacting 1-(2-trifluoromethylphenyl)ethyl alcohol with a sulfonylating agent in the presence of a base to obtain a sulfonic ester, reacting this sulfonic ester with optically active 1-phenylethylamine to obtain a secondary amine, purifying this secondary amine through conversion of the amine into a salt and recrystallization of this salt to thereby obtain an optically active secondary amine, and subjecting the optically active secondary amine or a salt thereof to hydrogenolysis. The process can give optically active 1-(2-trifluoromethylphenyl)ethyl- amine more efficiently than the conventional processes.
