Abstract:
Disclosed is a process for producing a useful substance using a microorganism, whereby the period of the culture of the microorganism can be shortened and the productivity of the useful substance can be improved.
An initial culture medium for the main culture to be used contains an oxide of a carbohydrate and an oxide of a hydrocarbon at a total concentration of less than 0.4 wt% in terms of carbon content. The use of the initial culture medium enables the improvement in the rate of consumption of an oxide of a carbohydrate and/or a hydrocarbon by a microorganism and the improvement in the productivity of the useful substance to be produced.
