Abstract:

A process for the purification or isolation of (2S, 3R)-1-halo-2-hydroxy-3-(protected amino)-4-phenylthiobutanes of general formula (1) or optical antipodes thereof, which comprises ridding a compound of general formula (1) contaminated with impurities or an optical antipode thereof contaminated similarly by the use of an aromatic hydrocarbon solvent to thereby obtain the compound or the antipode as a crystal. In said formula, X is halogeno; and P?1¿ and P?2¿ are each independently hydrogen or an amino-protecting group, or alternatively P?1¿ and P?2¿ may be united to form an amino-protecting group.
