Abstract:
A process for the production of carbonic esters by reacting an alcohol with carbon dioxide in the presence of a cyclopentadienyl -metal complex represented by the general formula (I), preferably in the presence of both such a cyclopentadienyl-metal complex and an acid compound: Cp2-mM(X)2+m (I) [wherein Cp is an optionally substituted cyclopentadienyl ring; X is an anionic ligand; M is titanium, zirconium, or hafnium; and m is an integer of 0 or 1]; and a process for the production of carbonic esters by reacting an alcohol with carbon dioxide in the presence of (i) at least one metal compound selected from among organometallic alkoxides, organometallic oxides, and inorganic metal oxides and (ii) an acid compound. According to the processes, carbonic esters can be obtained in high yields by using carbon dioxide which is nontoxic and noncorrosive and inexpensively available as the carbonyl agent and an alcohol as the reactant.
