Abstract:
Provided is a product-sum calculation device which, when applied to a neural network, is able to accurately detect a malfunction for which there is a risk that the performance of the neural network will be significantly lost. The product-sum calculation device (1) comprises a product calculation unit (10), a sum calculation unit (11), and a malfunction determination unit (12). The product calculation unit (10) comprises a plurality of product calculation elements (10AA – 10AC), each of the plurality of product calculation elements (10AA – 10AC) being a variable resistance element. The sum calculation unit (11) comprises an output detector (11A) for detecting the total value of the output from the plurality of product calculation elements (10AA – 10AC). The malfunction determination unit (12) determines that a malfunction has occurred when the total value detected by the output detector (11) exceeds a specified value. The specified value is a value equal to or greater than a maximum value for the total value detected by the output detector (11) when all of the plurality of product calculation elements (10AA – 10AC) are operating normally.
