Abstract:
The purpose of the present invention is to provide a method for obtaining cellulose and/or hemicellulose from a woody material under mild conditions. This production method for cellulose and/or hemicellulose comprises subjecting a woody material to an oxidation treatment using a metal complex and an oxidizing agent to separate and obtain cellulose and/or hemicellulose, and is characterized in that: the metal complex contains a metal and at least one nitrogen-containing compound selected from the group consisting of imides and amides as a ligand; the metal is at least one selected from the group consisting of iron group metals and platinum group metals; and the nitrogen-containing compound contains, as a substituent, at least one selected from the group consisting of sulfonyl groups having an electron-withdrawing group and sulfonyl groups having an aromatic group.
