Abstract:
Provided is a PHA polymerization enzyme that has high substrate specificity and makes it possible to synthesize a PHA that has a comparatively high molecular weight. A production method for a polyhydroxyalkanoate according to the present invention includes a step for introducing a gene for a class I polyhydroxyalkanoate polymerization enzyme (excluding polyhydroxyalkanoate polymerization enzymes derived from Aeromonas caviae) into a microorganism and culturing the microorganism into which the gene was introduced in the presence of a carbon source. A mutant polyhydroxyalkanoate polymerization enzyme according to the present invention is derived from Plesiomonas shigelloides and is coded for by the base sequence of SEQ ID NO:4.
